In The Art Of Travel Alain de Botton writes of anticipation prior to departing on a trip but I wonder if that might be an artifact of a less frenetic time. This morning we left to drive to Minnesota. The first part of our route was a “road less traveled.”
-Oregon Highway 207 north of Mitchell.
In the early evening, when the light was flat and dim, a deer stepped onto the road. I stopped the car as two does skittered across the highway followed by two fawns, and a small buck, still with velvet on his antlers.
An encounter not anticipated and worth pondering.
