Nevada, through the windshield

Birds we saw driving across the Basin and Range country of Nevada on March 3, 2012:

Magpie
Ravens
Golden eagles
Turkey vulture
Northern harrier

These were the big birds, easy to identify at 75 miles per hour. Easy to build stories about why they were perched on an electric pole or soaring above the highway. Sometimes flocks of small birds flew up from the roadside ditch but in a blink we were past because that is the nature of driving across Nevada.
